I recommend anyone who wants a copy of the film soundtrack to buy this one. Although the film was not well-received at the box office, the soundtrack shows MacRae, Jones and the superb cast performing their roles to their heart's content. Nathan Gunn, Kelli O'Hara, Jessie Mueller, Shuler Hensley, Jason Daniele, John Cullum, the New York Philharmonic , and then for the final ballet Tiler Peck and Robbie Fairchild! Shirley Jones, Yul Brenner, Frank Sinatra, Ol Blue eyes, recorded "Soliloquy" for crying out loud. It's a state fair with all the magic of the time coming to life in the sight and sounds if you are watching the movie.

Fifteen years after his death, a carousel barker is granted permission to return to Earth for one day to make amends to his widow and their daughter. I haven't listened to this yet as my husband is a Hi-Fi boffin, and he puts all new cd's into the fridge first, then freezes them for a couple of days, and then puts them back into the fridge again, so that they don't defrost too quickly - I know that sounds crazy, but it really works at giving a better, smoother sound.

Gordon MacRae was rude and arrogant... great acting. Ordered the other version by mistake.

This production of Carousel is one of the finest pieces of theater that I have ever seen.

Each actor seems perfectly made for their roles, including a winning performance by Stephanie Blythe as Nettie and a visit from John Cullum as the Starkeeper.

This is a much better recording than the cheap one from Hallmark (see my review of 14/12/14). Their performance helps bring out the pathos in this tragic R&H musical, which Rodgers himself considered his favourite of all his works. SUPERB (But would still like to see Hugh Jackman Concert Version,) This is a much better recording than the cheap one from Hallmark (see my ...Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 25, 2014 Bought it for my wife, who has sentimental memories of it, and she is very pleased with the recording which is very good for its age. It's worth every minute. The King and I (1956 Film Soundtrack) Especially when you can remember almost, every single time you Have watched one. The singing, orchestra, and acting are each superb, and I found myself enthralled by almost every minute.

My reason for three stars is the product rather than the content which I would give five for.

The music has never sounded better or more lush. It's a tale of a simpler America and god fearing Midwesterners. So, if I say this production of "Carousel" was almost better than all productions I've heard or been able to watch, I know what im talking about. Rest of the cast give marvellous support and the New York Philharmonic are nothing less than outstanding. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote.
