Here are my top 10 subsurface flies that are proven winners and also a lot of fun to fish.This list is just a starting place, and there are a lot of other great patterns out there that can get the job done. I like to fish this fly in Size 4 or Size 8 in either white, green, or black. Size 2 and larger for just the larger smallmouth. They're abundant — nearly every state in the lower 48 has at least one public smallmouth resource. Nothing beats catching a smallmouth bass on a topwater presentation.
