However far we may want to go, the truth is that we can only get there one step at a time. If we are to have a European Company Statute, it should contain the minimum regulations. If Europe is to flourish and create the jobs of the future, enterprise is the key. And that means recognising the burden on their resources of the world role they undertake and their point that their allies should bear the full part of the defence of freedom, particularly as Europe grows wealthier.
