Sam Hill came, saw and conquered the EWS with trademark style, and although it wasn't a walk in the park, he reaffirmed himself as the best in the world. The Nukeproof Mega has been around for a few years and has had a few tweaks along the way. Buy now.

The Mega range has evolved and this year sees the progression continue. Developed with WTB, they stay true to the Nukeproof philosophy of being…Last year was a big year for Nukeproof, not only launching their new re-vamped range but also making waves in both the Enduro and Downhill scene. It was clear that this was where the bike belonged; the 130mm of rear travel was just the right amount to keep the smile going from top to bottom, with the confidence growing as you go. Add to this the increased ‘in the bike’ feel that comes with 650B wheels and a low bottom bracket and there is a sense of near invincibility when charging down fast, rough rock gardens or railing berms. This is where the Mega AM shines, it has a true Bulldog spirit that encourages hard charging, and it now has an underlying hint of refinement that adds to its overall abilities. This new refinement has elevated the Mega AM to more than just a good value mini-DH rig. For 2014 Nukeproof have also added the ‘number one must-have upgrade’ for trail/enduro riders, the addition of 27.5 wheels.Marketed as do-it-all bike for those that like to attack the downhills, it screams fun without draining your wallet as soon as you open the box, but does it live up to it?With 130mm of rear wheel travel, a 67˚ head angle and a wide/short cockpit, the TR was clearly designed for the more fun side of all day riding, but as an all day bike it also needs to get you up to the descents and flowing singletrack. The bikes climbing ability was the first aspect put under the microscope, with a tough rutted climb topping out at just over 15% putting both bike and rider to the test from the start! Nukeproof Mega TR 275 Comp 2014. They make great value bikes that are built tough and have a bias towards fun descending. As trail bikes go the Mega TR in it’s stock set up handles most climbs with aplomb and of course what goes up must come down…After cresting the hill and lowering the saddle the TR really comes to life! However, if getting times on the climbs is your bag, a slightly longer stem would add a little more control on the very technical ascents. Just when you thought he…Nukeproof's new Horizon CL is their first foray into the world of clip pedals and as you would expect, contains plenty of DNA from their well respected flat pedals. This eventually leading to a split into two models; the longer travel AM that we tested in issue 28 and the more trail orientated 130mm TR that we have here. Expanding their Horizon range of components, Nukeproof have added a new wheelset into the mix at a bargain price. This bike screams “hammer time”.Chunky tubes and improved construction ensure a stiff frame that boosts a 44mm head tube, ISCG mounts, direct mount front mech, 142x12 rear axle and stealth dropper compatibility.Suspension units come care of RockShox, a piggy backed Monarch R Plus sits out back and a set of Pike RC Solo Air forks look after things up front. The drivetrain is taken care of with SRAM X7, and shifters work a X7 rear clutch derailleur and a X5 front derailleur. This places you in a reasonable position to get on the pedals, however, it does also place you well forward of the rear axle. Nukeproof are very much a no-nonsense brand. The package is good value for money, with the frame, fork and Nukeproof build kit giving a great base to build from should you want to upgrade in the future. The Mega TR 275 Comp really shines when the trail’s flowing downhill, and is great fun and very quick on technical singletrack. Also the bike comes with good tyres, it is so important to spec tyres that will allow the bike to shine and the HR II on the Mega AM match its purpose perfectly. For the money the spec is solid, but the choice of Avid Elixir 3 brakes lacked a little finesse on the downhill sections. My second issue, which is actually more of a frustration, it would have been good to have specced the bike with a QR seat post clamp, especially as there is no dropper post. The Nukeproof Mega AM has stepped it up a level this year. Buy now. This meant that traction was hard to find when climbing on slippery ground, counter intuitively climbing gets easier the steeper the slope as more weight is thrown over the rear axle.Great value and sensible spec mean you can race enduro or DH on a budget. There are now two Mega options; a shorter travel TR version and the 160mm travel AM version we have here. The Mega AM looks like it wants to rumble, chunky squared off tubes, large welds and a long, low slung stance.
